in 1956 the US government discovered the first of many “unnatural” species roaming around in the form of a vampire. within a month of this discovery they found three more species- werewolves, shifters, and the gifted. the initial reaction was to harness the powers of these groups, so they did. they rounded up the individuals of these species and performed test after test in hopes of being able to create some kind of super army.
it was 1983 when the government realized how wrong their actions were. they passed a law that was made to protect the unnatural humans. they let all of the people they had captured return to the real world, but instilled new ways to keep them safe from other power hungry officials, as well as the unknowing humans. their first order of business was setting up schools for the unnatural children so that they could gain not only a regular education, but be educated on how to control their abilities and how to blend in with the real world. danver’s academy for the gifted is the school set up for those who are in high school and is located in texas, though the actual city is unknown.
